About

I am a geoscientist with a PhD in Geology from the University of Johannesburg, where I also completed my MSc in Geology. I hold a BSc (Honours) and BSc in Geology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
My research specializes on the mineralogy, geochemistry and igneous petrology of rare-metal pegmatites in the Orange River pegmatite belt of the Northern Cape, which host lithium, niobium and tantalum. This work has given me hands-on experience with SEM, EPMA, ICP-MS, XRD and optical microscopy. It has also built a strong foundation in data compilation, interpretation visualisation. and presentation
I am particularly interested in, but not limited to mineral exploration  and 3D geological modelliing as well as in the geological processes that control how mineral deposits form and are preserved. I enjoy bringing complex datasets together to produce practical, evidence-based interpretations, and I work well in multidisciplinary teams.
My field experience spans mapping, sampling and mine visits from my undergraduate studies through to my doctorate. I have also completed short courses in ArcGIS Pro, structural logging of drill core, and research writing and presentation.  I am well versed in the use of geological 3D modelling software such as Leapfrog Geo to conduct geological, numeric and resource estimation.
I have presented my MSc and PhD research at the Geocongress, the Igneous and Metamorphic Studies Group (IMSG), the Cimera Colloquium and departmental PPM talks. I have also shared a geologist’s perspective on illegal mining on SABC national news. My work in science communication has earned first and second place, as well as a People’s Choice Award, in University of Johannesburg competitions for translating research for a general audience. I also spent four years tutoring and demonstrating in mineralogy, geochemistry and igneous petrology.
My research has strengthened my critical-thinking, problem-solving, scientific writing, data visualisation, and technical communication skills, with experience presenting and communicating scientific findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences. I bring a can-do attitude, creative problem-solving and genuine curiosity to every challenge. If you would like to discuss my work, share ideas, or explore how I could contribute to your team, I would love to hear from you.
